Together with Maggie Sasso, KG Leather will be embarking on a little trip down south. We are on an important mission to rescue a cat named Diesel. You just cannot be prepared enough, which is why I will be bringing my mobile leather carving studio.
1. Xacto blade kit, mostly for cutting thin leather
2. Basic leather punches and pointy tools for embossing. I try to use only the simple punches that can create designs that are impossible to carve by hand, such as tiny dots.
3. Fine and Superfine foam-backed sandpaper for smoothing out carved spaces
4. Hole punch kit (with custom case)
5. Sweet ruler
6. Mallet for punches and embossing
7. Flexcut SlipStrop, used for maintaining sharp blades (which dull crazy quick on leather), with Flexcut Gold polishing compound and a thin leather lace that I use for V-tools.
8. Pin cushion with variety of needles, the most important being leather needles which are extra strong and extra sharp (ouch.)
9. Waxed threads
10. Edge slicker for hairy edges
11. Aussie Leather Conditioner, recommended by Kenton Sorenson, is an amazing product that conditions, waterproofs and makes your leather look rich and shiny
12. Broken cutting board which I use to cushion embossing and hole punching or whenever I need a little lap desk
13. A little case I made for miscellaneous writing utensils, brushes, etc.
14. Utility knife, essential for cutting thick leather
15. Carving tools (right now I’m enjoying the Flexcut tools)
